Men's formal shoes are generally split in to three categories: lace up Derby, lace up Oxford and laced brogues which can be either Oxfords or Derbys. Confused? Well a Derby is a shoe with an open facing - that's the front piece with the eyelets. An Oxford has closed facings so its pretty straight forward. Tan brogues are all the rage now and look great wiith turned up jeans or chinos - black brogues and toe cap styles are generally better for work or occasions like weddings.
